Constantly experiencing different environments from moving a lot with parents in civil service work. Growing up, her father was a civil engineer, and this allowed her to experience a lot of different environments and spaces. Dixie has a deep appreciation of history reflected in her work by traveling the world, exploring different cultures, architectural styles, limitations of building materials and architectural phenomena. She has developed solid working relationships with the finest builders and local craftsmen to ensure the highest quality.

Dixie Niichel graduated from the interior design program at Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and has been working in the design industry since 1985. She started in San Francisco working for Horton Lee's lighting design, commercial and residential lighting system and custom light fixtures. She returned to Colorado , to work for ADR, a prominent interior design firm in Denver. Dixie has completed the national NCIDQ qualification process and is a professional member of ASID.
